Dear Colleague:
The UC Santa Barbara Faculty Association welcomes you as we begin the new academic year. As many of you know, the SBFA is a voluntary, dues-supported organization comprised of Academic Senate members dedicated to the improvement of the economic status and general welfare of the UCSB faculty.
Over the past three decades the SBFA has worked hard to increase faculty salaries, to add significant health care benefits such as dental coverage, and to protect and increase retirement benefits.
In recent years, SBFA has played an important role in maintaining health benefits for faculty, advocating for pensions with defined benefits, and upholding the idea of the public university as presented in the California Master Plan. We collaborate with Faculty Associations on other UC campuses to address system-wide issues affecting the welfare of faculty, and to keep apprised of state legislative measures relevant to higher education. The Council of UC Faculty Organizations (CUCFA) works with Reclaim California Higher Education to advance The $66 Fix, a carefully-researched report that proves California can afford to restore top-quality public higher education-and make the system 100% tuition-free.
Now, more than ever, we encourage you to join online. SBFA monthly dues are Assistant Professors $8 / Associate Professors $15 / Full Professors $20. We encourage you to also join the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) at a discounted rate when you join SBFA. The joint SBFA-AAUP monthly dues are Assistant Professors $18.50 / Associate Professors $31.75 / Full Professors: $38.84. Feel free to address any membership questions by writing to us at: ucsbfa@gmail.com.
By partnering with the powerful AAUP, CUCFA will be better able to advance its goals in the defense and promotion of academic freedom, shared university governance, and the economic security of all those engaged in teaching and research in higher education.
If you would like more information or have particular concerns don’t hesitate to write to us.
