UCSB Faculty Association
March 27, 2014
Colleagues:
The abrupt and disruptive health insurance changes instigated by the UC Office of the President have been in effect for several months. The UCSB Faculty Association was in the forefront of the faculty and staff protest that greeted the UCOP’s top-down transformation of our system of health provision, especially the exclusion of Cottage Hospital from Tier One UC Care coverage. We are contemplating further action to make sure that when UCSB faculty and staff are once again faced with open enrollment next fall, we will have some say in our choices and in the physician and hospital coverage on offer.
We are therefore calling a meeting at noon on Wednesday, April 9 in the State Street Room of the UCen to hear of your experience – for good or ill – under the new health insurance schemes and to discuss what we can do about it. It is important to generate a well documented set of stories, incidents, and problems, so that we will have a better understanding of the problems we face and how they might be fixed and at what cost. All are welcome, members of the Faculty Association and other faculty and staff.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Nelson Lichtenstein
