Statement by the UCSB Feminist Studies Department

by operations December 14, 2022 No Comments
December 12, 2022
The Senate faculty members of Department of Feminist Studies at UCSB affirm the right of student workers, postdocs, and academic researchers to engage in lawful strike activity. We will not perform—or hire others to perform—work, otherwise known as struck labor, that would ordinarily be done by a striking graduate student, postdoc, or researcher. We will not engage in retaliation based on their participation or non-participation in strike activities in all matters under our direct control, and we will publicly oppose retaliation measures against either striking students or faculty respecting the picket line. In solidarity with our teaching assistants, we support those joining the strike’s commitment to withhold grade submission until the strike ends. Systemic changes to address accessibility, economic fairness and opportunity within the UC system are long overdue.
